Moldovan acting premier requires to amend tax regime for casinos

Chisinau, 28 November /MOLDPRES/- Acting Prime Minister Gheorhge Brega signed an order on 27 November, asking the Finance Ministry, Economics Ministry and Justice Ministry to propose amendments to the regulatory framework and legal provisions to adjust fiscal regime, applied to casinos and other recreation units, according to recommendations by the Chamber of Auditors, the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
The topic related to facilities applied to casinos was discussed at an operative meeting held on 23 November, Brega asking Acting Economics Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Stephane Bride for an informative note on conclusions made public recently by the Chamber of Auditors.
The Economics Ministry's reply reads that supervision and control over carrying out gambling is performed by the Finance Ministry and Licensing Chamber, and the State Fiscal Service is meant to monitor fiscal operations in the sector. At the same time, the Economics Ministry also noted that "VAT is not applied to gambling services provided by persons having entrepreneurial activity in the field of gambling". The set exemptions are applied since 1 July 1998.
