Chisinau, 30 November /MOLDPRES/-An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale occurred in the Vrancea area on 29 November close to midnight. The shakes were felt in Moldova too.
According to experts, the Romanian earthquake was recorded by Moldovan seismic stations as well, however, on Moldova's territory its magnitude did not exceed two degrees on the Richter scale.
The head of the Experimental Seismological Centre of the Institute of Geology and Seismology at the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Ion Ilies said “the entire network of Moldovan seismic stations recorded a magnitude of 4.1 degrees at a 121-km depth, following the earthquake in Vrancea at 23:28. The magnitude of the earthquake in Moldova did not exceed two degrees on the Richter scale, which means that only a few citizens had felt the shakes”.
According to a study carried out by seismologists in Moldova’s southern area this morning, only two people out of 40 had felt the shakes.
Over 200 earthquakes had been recorded in Vrancea in 2015. An earthquake measuring 2.1 on the Richter scale took place in Moldova in January, near southern Alexandru Ioan Cuza settlement, Cahul district.
