Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today held a meeting with a delegation of the Romanian Senate’s Commission for Romanians everywhere. The latter noted that Romania would further back Moldova’s EU integration course, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
“Backing Moldova’s EU integration efforts continues to be a top priority for Romania. We hope Moldova’s steps towards the EU get more and more enhanced,” the head of the commission, Marcel Bujor said.
In the beginning of the meeting, Candu congratulated Romanian senators and citizens on the occasion of Romania’s National Day. The Moldovan official reiterated his appraisal for Romania's efforts to back Moldova’s EU integration agenda. In this context, Candu touched upon legislative priorities, achievements and current arrears in the EU integration field.
“The implementation of the Association Agreement is the quickest and most qualitative way for Moldova to modernize, as it includes everything Moldova needs in the next ten years,” Candu said.
The sides had also discussed possibilities to enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation between standing commissions, perform parliamentary expertise, align legislation and implement the acquis communautaire, as well as opportunities to pay mutual visits to boost up the implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement. The officials addressed a string of projects the Moldovan parliament is implementing with the support of the Romanian legislative body, such as institutional capacity-building programmes, including the concept of the e-parliament.
According to Candu, the Moldovan parliament is interested in creating a government as soon as possible, continuing talks with the International Monetary Fund, implementing reforms in the justice and energy sectors, combating corruption, investigating banking embezzlement and recovering the prejudice.
“The political instability in the country and certain failures of the government, including some arrears in the field of reforms and the latest banking embezzlement are interconnected. We must take specific actions to clear up the consequences of these failures and vanish people's disappointment,” Candu said.
