Chisinau, 2 December /MOLDPRES/- Participants in a national forum, Bioenergy: Towards Local Energy Autonomy, today discussed the turning of agricultural, industrial and urban waste into electric and thermal energy. The event is part of the Eco-Energy Moldova Week.
The director of the Energy Efficiency Agency, Mihail Stratan, has said that turning to good account renewable energy sources by using modern technologies might diminish the country’s energy dependence and enhance Moldova’s economic development. “Moldova joined the European Energy Community in 2014 and took responsibilities needed to be implemented in the energy sector, and the authorities must contribute to meeting these commitments," Stratan said.
Attending the event, acting Economics Minister Stephane Bride said “simultaneous production of thermal and electric energy by using biomass waste will lead to a drop in energy imports to Moldova, will contribute to developing the local energy sector and, not in the least, will boost creating new jobs for citizens."
For his part, EU Ambassador to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said “Moldova has sufficient quantities of waste that can be used on energy purposes, and bioenergy provides an outstanding opportunity to diversify energy supply and back the use of energy produced locally."
At the same time, the official “urged Moldovan authorities to adopt the law on renewable sources use as soon as possible in final reading”, which is has been in specialty commissions since 2014.
The Eco-Energy Moldova Week will end on 4 December with an event on awarding the most notable achievements in producing, transmitting, distributing and efficient consumption of consumption, as well as in developing and promoting modern technologies in the renewable energy sector.
