Chisinau, 3 December /MOLDPRES/- U.S. government will further back the reformation process of National Army. U.S. Army commander in Europe, lieutenant general Frederick Ben Hodges made the statement at a meeting with Chief of General Staff, National Army commander, brigadier Igor Gorgan on 2 December.

The American official appreciated Moldova’s contribution to KFOR mission in Kosovo and UN operations, pointing out that in this way the National Army servicemen contributed to peacekeeping at international level.

For his part, Gorgan thanked the American side for the contribution to modernizing the National Army, for the assistance within the projects carried out both in Moldova and abroad, as well as training Moldovan officers in U.S. elite military schools.

Gorgan also highlighted the importance of multinational military exercises carried out in Ukraine, Germany, Romania and Bulgaria, aimed at developing Moldovan servicemen. He said the participation in such drills had proved once again that the National Army was interoperable with the armies of NATO member states.

The discussion agenda included issues related to the Moldovan-American partnership in defense and planning common training activities for 2016.
