Netherlands willing to back Moldova during its EU Council presidency

Chisinau, 9 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Netherlands is willing to back Moldova during its chairmanship in the EU Council, due to start on 1 January 2016, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Moldova Stella Ronner-Grubacic, on a visit to Chisinau, has given assurances to this effect at a meeting with acting Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega.
The talks were focused on issues of the social and political situation in Moldova, regional developments, prospects for the development of Moldovan-Dutch cooperation relations, as well as for extending the dialogue between the two states in different sectors.
The officials tackled actions on supporting Moldova’s European integration, in the context of the Netherlands taking over the chairmanship of the EU Council as of 1 January 2016. “The Netherlands is concerned about the situation in Moldova and we want to help you in promoting reforms and European integration”, Stella Ronner-Grubacic said. The official also pointed out the importance of continuing reforms and ensuring functionality of state institutions.
Brega highly appreciated the role of Dutch investments, as well as the technical and financial assistance to reform justice and banking sector in Moldova.
Gheorghe Brega thanked the Netherlands also for supporting Moldova in efforts to modernize and comply with European standards, and reiterated the country’s interest in boosting the bilateral cooperation.
The Netherlands is on top of foreign investors from Moldova. So far, 24 bilateral documents have been concluded in such sectors as: mutual promotion and protection of investments, international road transport, avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion.
