Moldovan, Indian officials broach bilateral ties

Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/-The chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), Valeriu Lazar, met Bucharest-based Indian Ambassador to Moldova Riva Ganguly Das on 9 December. The sides discussed boosting the economic cooperation relations between representatives of the business environment from the two states.
According to the CCI’s press service, Lazar thanked the Indian official for interest in extending the economic cooperation relations with Moldova. In the context, he that representatives of the Moldovan private sector were interested in identifying new partnerships with Indian companies.
“The foremost task of cooperation between our states represents opening business development opportunities and access to as diversified as possible sales markets, taking into account our country’s export potential, as well as India’s import potential, which is far from being turned to good account. Moldova signed the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with EU, and the free trade agreement with Turkey is to be ratified soon, which makes us a friendly area for attracting foreign investments and setting new partnerships," he said.
At the same time, Valeriu Lazar urged the Indian business people to take knowledge of products and services from Moldova. The the best opportunity for this is visiting the Made in Moldova exhibition, due on 3-7 February 2016, and which represents the biggest exhibition event in Moldova, organized by CCI.
For her part, Riva Ganguly Das said Moldova had a promising potential, and the meeting was a good beginning to cooperate and promote companies from India. The ambassador expressed interest to collaborate with CCI in organizing business events aimed at developing the bilateral ties between the two countries.
According to data by the National Statistics Bureau, in January-September 2015, the export of Moldovan products to India stood at as little as 233,000 dollars, whereas the import of Indian products to Moldova was estimated at 20 million dollars.
