Chisinau, 11 December /MOLDPRES/ - Achievements recorded by Moldova in the children's protection sector over the last years, especially in terms of children's adoption, were discussed at a today meeting between Ambassador, Special Advisor for Children's Issues at the U.S. Department of State Susan S. Jacobs and acting Deputy Labour, Social Protection and Family Minister Boris Gilca.

According to the ministry's information and media communication service, Boris Gilca said the national adoption, along with the prevention of the family violence, was one of the priorities of the institution he was leading.

At the same time, the deputy minister also said that the de-institutionalisation of persons with disabilities was a strategic priority of the government, including in the field of children's protection. The adoption procedure is regulated and enforced in line with the national and international legal norms in Moldova. At the same time, we stay open for cooperation, in order to improve the adoption process.

The exchange of information between the two institutions will serve as support for developing an action plan on children at risk and will be available on the webpage of the U.S.  Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Data put out by the Labour, Social Protection and Family Ministry shows that, since early 2015, 66 Moldovan children have been adopted by citizens of Moldova, while another seven children - by foreigners from Switzerland, Germany and the USA.
