Chisinau, 17 December /MOLDPRES/ - The heads of state, parliament speakers and prime ministers dismissed for violation of the Constitution or recalled from posts by no confidence votes are likely to be deprived of diplomatic passports. The parliament passed a draft law to this in the first reading today.
The initiative belongs to the faction of the Party of Communists (PCRM), and was backed by most lawmakers, except for the ones from the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM).
"The right to hold a diplomatic passport for term of life is a privilege, and those who trespassed the law must not benefit from it," a PCRM MP, Anatolie Zagorodnii, has said.
The lawmakers of the Democratic Party (PDM) and PLDM said that, when considering the draft in the second reading, they would come up with amendments, due to clear up the way, as well as the reasons leading to depriving officials of diplomatic passports.
Presently, the law establishes the right of the persons who held the offices of president, parliament speaker and prime minister, as well as their wifes to hold diplomatic passport all the life long.
