European official pays fact-collecting visit to Chisinau

Chisinau, 21 December /MOLDPRES/- The chairperson of the monitoring committee on honouring obligations and commitments by member states of the Council of Europe, Stefan Schennach, pays a fact-collecting visit to Moldova on 20-22 December, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The visit aims at examining conditions for preventive detention of former premier Vlad Filat and ex-MP Grigore Petrenco.
Today, Stefan Schennach is going to examine the conditions for preventive detention and to talk to Filat and Petrenco, as well as to their lawyers.
Also, the European official has scheduled meetings with Moldova’s Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, people's ombudsman Mihai Cotorobai, acting Justice Minister Vladimir Cebotari, acting director of Department of Penitentiary Institutions Alexandru Pinzari.
The visit’s agenda also includes meetings with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, as well as with leadership of parliamentary parties, the leader of Party of Socialists, Igor Dodon, leader of Party of Communists, Vladimir Voronin, Democratic Party’s leader Marian Lupu, acting leader of Liberal Democratic Party Valeriu Strelet and Liberal Party’s leader Mihai Ghimpu.
Stefan Schennach will also hold discussions with members of parliamentary delegation to PACE, headed by deputy speaker Liliana Palihovici.
On 20 December, the official met representatives of civil society and international community.
