Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/- The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will back Ion Sturza’s candidacy for the office of prime minister. PLDM acting leader Valeriu Strelet announced the decision after a today’s meeting with the nominated premier.
Following the meeting, Strelet said that Sturza met the requirements of the party to a candidate for the prime minister’s post.
“At discussions, we had an exchange of opinions on criteria of government’s formation and basic profile of ministers. The selection criteria were set forth. It was a good discussion. We made sure that Mr. Sturza meets the criteria of the PLDM Political Council. All 18 MPs of PLDM accepted Ion Sturza’s candidacy”, he said.
Sturza pointed out that the principles of government’s formation had been discussed at the meeting.
“We talked about the government’s creation principles. I can say that there are no differences between my opinion and the one of PLDM. I will assume the provisions of the government action programme worked out by the Strelet government. The future cabinet will comprise both new people and some of the current or former ministers, yet they should not be members of any party. I am going to meet the other parliamentary factions, to talk also to them about these principles”, he noted.
Ion Sturza is the candidate nominated by President Nicolae Timofti for the office of prime minister. The head of state made the statement after consultations held with leaders of PLDM, Democratic Party (PDM), Liberal Party (PL) and unaffiliated MPs of Leanca group on 21 December.
Under the Constitution, the candidate for premier’s office has at his/her disposal 15 days to ask for parliament’s confidence vote on the action programme and entire list of the government.
The government led by Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet was dismissed by the votes of PDM, Party of Communists and Party of Socialists on 29 October.
