Chisinau, 22 December /MOLDPRES/-After chairing today’s meeting of the Party of Communists’ (PCRM) Central Committee, its leader, Vladimir Voronin said the 14 MPs who had left the faction on 21 December, had been expelled from the party.
Voronin said the departure of the 14 MPs was a shock, especially since they were part of the PCRM’s political executive.
“Six of the 14 MPs who left, were members of the party’s political executive. It is not true that they did not participate in the decision-making process, as they were members of the party’s leadership. Over the last two months, I was told that someone was negotiating with some of the PCRM’s members to convince them to leave the party, but no one gave me specific details. One could find lots of arguments, but betrayal will never change, therefore, we decided to expel them from the party,” Voronin said.
The Communist leader said the party’s Central Committee decided to appoint Communist MP Ina Supac as the new head of the PCRM’s faction in the parliament. “We will elect the party’s secretary executive during the next meeting,” Voronin added.
A group of 14 Communist MPs announced on 21 December that they were leaving the Communist faction. At the same time, some MPs said the group would create their own parliamentary platform, named the Social Democratic Platform for Moldova.
Representatives of the Democratic Party (PDM) held a meeting with the 14 MPs on 21 December to start discussions on the creation of a Social Democratic Parliamentary Platform that would represent the pro-European parliamentary majority.
