Chisinau, 23 December /MOLDPRES/ - The Sustainable Development Fund will ensure the continuity of investments into the Compact programme. At a today's meeting, the cabinet approved a government decision on the creation of a public institution, Sustainable Development Fund Moldova (FDD Moldova), the government's communication and media relations department has reported.
FDD Moldova is the direct successor of the Millennium Challenge Account Moldova, which carried out more investment projects in the country, within an assistance programme provided to Moldova by the U.S. Government through the Millennium Challenge Corporation in 2010-2015. These investments were focused on two projects of the Compact programme: on modernising the agriculture and restoration of roads in Moldova.
Government Secretary-General Serghei Palihovici said FDD Moldova would ensure the sustainability of the investments made by the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
The decision sets the statute of the new institution, as well as its tasks and powers. At the same time, the government approved the nominal composition of the Council of Observers of the Sustainable Development Fund Moldova. The Council is made up of six members and Serghei Palihovici is the Council's chairman.
