Chisinau, 24 December /MOLDPRES/-The Democratic Party (PDM) and the 14 MPs who left the faction of the Party of Communists (PCRM) signed the declaration on the creation of the “Pentru Moldova” (For Moldova) Social-Democratic Platform (PSDM) today. The platform will submit the Moldovan president a candidate for the position of prime minister in the next days.
The declaration on the unification of both parties was signed by 34 MPs today.
“In the next days, all 34 MPs will meet the president and will suggest him a candidate for the position of prime minister, in order to steer Moldova out of crisis and help it implement economic, legal and social reforms. PSDM representatives invite other MPs to join the platform and help solve existent problems,” former Communist MP Igor Vremea said.
Democrat MP Sergiu Sirbu noted that the purpose of this political construction was to bring stability into the country and create a consistent government.
“We completed the talks by signing the declaration on the creation of the “Pentru Moldova” Social-Democratic Platform (PSDM) today. PSDM is becoming the largest faction in the parliament, and we will mobilize other forces as well to vote for a new government,” Sirbu said.
“We received signals that there are other MPs willing to join our platform. PSDM representatives currently hold 34 mandates; we only need 17 more to be able to vote a government. Chances are that we will find them. Moreover, there are signals showing that we will be able to gather 61 votes necessary to elect the president in March. PSDM will nominate a candidate for the position of prime minister and will submit it to the president in the next days,” Sirbu added.
A group of 14 MPs left the PCRM faction on 21 December, saying that they would create their own parliamentary platform, called the “Pentru Moldova” Social-Democratic Platform.
The same day, PDM representatives held a meeting with the 14 MPs in order to start talks on the creation of a Social Democratic Parliamentary Platform, representing the center of the pro-European parliamentary majority.
