Moldovan premier-designate to unveil new cabinet, government action programme on 2 January 2016

Chisinau, 28 December /MOLDPRES/-After holding a meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today, Prime Minister-designate Ion Sturza said he would unveil the new cabinet's action programme on 2 January 2016.

The prime minister-designate said his meeting with Andrian Candu had been productive and had focused on the unveiling of the new cabinet and government action programme.

“The parliament’s standing bureau is going to meet within the deadline stipulated in the Constitution, in order to set up a date for the parliament to hold a special meeting so that I can ask for the MPs’ confidence vote,” Sturza said.

“I will hold talks with the parliamentary factions next days and will present them the new cabinet of ministers. I continue to believe that the latter should be politically unaffiliated. Our team will include new names, and it will not be a coincidence. The list will be ready on 2 January in the morning, and the declaration of integrity is going to be presented by the designated government on 3 January,” Sturza added.  

Ion Sturza was appointed for the office of prime minister by President Nicolae Timofti on 21 December 2015. So far, the prime minister-designate has held meetings with MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Liberal Party (PL) and the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM). However, the parliamentary factions of the Democratic Party (PDM) and Socialist Party (PSRM) refused to meet Sturza, noting that they would not vote for his candidature.

According to the Constitution, the prime minister-designate may ask for the parliament’s confidence vote and unveil the government action programme and new cabinet members within 15 days. This deadline ends on 4 January 2016.
