Chisinau, 4 January /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister-designate Ion Sturza was surprised at the lack of quorum in the parliament today. He said he had hoped that MPs would give up on their holidays to attend the meeting and get acquainted with the new cabinet of ministers and government action programme.
According to Sturza, the lack of quorum in the parliament may be considered as a lack of support and vote of no confidence for the new team and action programme. “This exercise puts an end to my mandate. I will hold a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti to make a symbolic return of my mandate. It is true that I relied on the MPs’ attendance; however, I knew there were certain concerns about the message that I was going to send in the parliament,” Sturza said.
The deputy leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Liliana Palihovici was disappointed with the lack of quorum in the parliament. “Sturza had the right to have his action programme and list of ministers debated in the parliament. Unfortunately, we did not have this opportunity. We wished Moldova could have had a government starting with today,” Palihovici said.
According to the Constitution, the president is going to hold new consultations with the parliamentary factions in order to appoint a new candidate for the position of prime minister.
