Chisinau, 5 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will summon the formation's National Political Council to decide on the conditions for participation in the creation of a parliamentary majority. The PLDM acting leader, Valeriu Strelet, made statements to this effect after a meeting with the Liberal Party, European People's Party of Moldova (PPEM) and Social Democratic Platform today.
Following two hours of discussions, Valeriu Strelet said PLDM would continue to claim its right to put up a candidate for the office of prime minister.
"The time we have at our disposal is till 11 January. We believe that the prime minister, due to be nominated, must come up with a clear-cut position for overcoming the crisis. Presently, both PLDM and PDM (Democratic Party) claim the right of putting forward a candidate for the position of prime minister. Thus, we are to summon the National political Council of the formation, in order to take a decision to this end," Strelet said.
The Democrats' leader, Marian Lupu, said that "today, he is empowered to speak on behalf of 35 lawmakers, which means more than one third. From all the points of view, PDM is put in the position to take over the office of prime minister, which I have earlier said too. The PLDM representatives demanded one more week to come with a clear decision. We are waiting for their answer. Our only request is that this decision be voiced as soon as possible," Lupu said.
The PL leader, Mihai Ghimpu, said that "we have lost more than one month only in discussions. We see a procrastination again. We are not afraid of snap elections. We are just afraid of where will we go after the latter," Ghimpu added.
Following a failed attempt of swearing in office of the Sturza government on 4 January, President Nicolae Timofti today started consultations with PLDM, PL, PPEM and the Social Democratic Platform, for the nomination of a candidate for the office of prime minister. After the meeting, the Liberal Democrats said they would participate in the formation of a parliamentary majority.
