Chisinau, 10 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Liberal Party (PL) will participate in the formation of a parliamentary majority with the MPs backing the European integration of Moldova and the implementation of the Association Agreement. PL leader Mihai Ghimpu made statements to this effect after the formation's republican council.
At the meeting, the PL members also ruled to empower the Liberal Political Bureau to negotiate the agreement on the formation of the parliamentary majority, government's action programme, structure and composition of the cabinet.
''We are ready to discuss to reach a decision on the formation of a parliamentary majority, without which Moldova cannot have a government and we will already speak about the candidacies due to put forward for the office of prime minister. Under the today's decision, PL will take part in the creation of a majority with all MPs who support the European integration and implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union,'' Mihai Ghimpu said.
''We are to meet in short time and negotiate, as we have only two days at our disposal,'' Ghimpu added.
At the last talks between the pro-European parties, no progress was made, as both PLDM and the Democratic Party (PDM) claimed the right to put forward a candidate for the office of prime minister.
After a meeting of the National Political Council of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), the party's deputy leader, Iurie Tap, said that ''the Liberal Democrats will continue discussions on the formation of a parliamentary majority, further insisting on the appointment of a candidate for the office of prime minister.''
Following a 4 January failed attempt of swearing in office of the Sturza government, President Nicolae Timofti started consultations with PLDM, PL, European Party of Moldova (PPEM) and the Social Democratic Platform, for the nomination of a new candidate for the office of prime minister.
Under a ruling by the Constitutional Court, if a cabinet is not sworn in office till 29 January, the Moldovan parliament will be dissolved and snap elections will be called.
