Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - Supporters of the Truth and Dignity Civic Platform today staged protests against a candidate for the office of prime minister, nominated by the Democratic Party (PDM), on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) of Chisinau. At the same time, backers of the Democrats organised a rally on the square of the National Opera Theatre. At the event, the PDM supporters demanded that President Nicolae Timofti nominates a candidate for the office of prime minister, put forward by the recently created parliamentary majority.

People who had come from all over Moldova shouted anti-government slogans, demanded that the authorities establish stability in Moldova, continue the European integration and appoint an upright prime minister.

"Time is ripe when everybody should say a firm word. The bandits attempt to seize the office of prime minister. Time has come when you must call to account those who should represent your interests and who have been stealing you every day. Our fate, the fate of this country depends on all of us. Good people, wake up after all, the fate of the country depends on us," one of the Dignity and Truth Platform's members, Stanislav Pavlovschi, said.

On the other hand, the supporters of the Democrats shouted slogans urging the Moldovan leadership to put an end to the political crisis in Moldova. "Yes to majority, no to snap polls!" "We want stability in the country!", "We want a strong leader!"

"We need a government, we want stability. We are sick and tired of waiting. Many people committed to political struggles, but we want stability, to continue the country's European integration. It is important that we have a prime minister backed by the parliamentary majority. The head of state has moral, rational duty to put forward a candidate of the majority. We are here to tell the president to observe rationality," one of the participants in the rally organised by PDM, Carolin Minciuc, said.

During protests, the Stefan cel Mare boulevard was blocked by protesters, and the government building was surrounded by hundreds of policemen.
