Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/- The acting leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), Valeriu Strelet after the meeting of the party’s Political Bureau today, said PLDM would not back the candidate for the office of prime minister, Vladimir Plahotniuc, proposed by the new parliamentary majority.
According to Liberal Democrats, “the new candidate for the office of prime minister is a danger for Moldova”.
“PLDM and its parliamentary faction will not back Vladimir Plahotniuc, as he conditions a dangerous concentration of all the power in a single political party, aiming to subordinate all the state institutions,” Strelet said.
“We reiterate PLDM’s firm commitment to recover the political situation and create a parliamentary majority based on the principles of the rule-of-law state and willing to obey the democratic rules as soon as possible. We are going to announce our party’s next actions in the light of the current circumstances in the nearest time,” Strelet said.
After holding a meeting with President Nicolae Timofti today, Democrat leader Marian Lupu said “the Political Bureau of the Democratic Party (PD) decided to appoint Vladimir Plahotniuc as a candidate for the position of prime minister. Until tomorrow, the president shall decide on the approval of the candidate,” Lupu said.
According to a ruling of the Constitutional Court (CC), the Moldovan parliament shall be dissolved and snap elections shall be held if authorities fail to create a new government by 29 January 2016.
