Chisinau, 14 January /MOLDPRES/-Seven MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) who signed the petition on the creation of a new parliamentary majority and backed Vladimir Plahotniuc’s candidature for the position of prime minister, will withdraw their signatures. The announcement was made by PLDM deputy leader, Tudor Deliu in front of the protesters in the Great National Assembly Square today.

Deliu says the withdrawal of these signatures “will give the president the freedom to nominate a candidate wanted by people,” Deliu said.

“Yesterday’s events were not a victory. We are currently discussing with our colleagues and hopefully they will not betray us. Dear people, we must be united and not let anyone kneel us down,” Liberal Democrat MP Maria Ciobanu said.

Previously, seven Liberal Democrat MPs, and namely Vladimir Hotineanu, Ion Balan, Stefan Creanga, Nae-Simion Plesca, Gheorghe Mocanu, Mihaela Spatari and Aliona Gonta, along with the Social Democratic Platform, Liberal Party and the former Liberal Democrat MP Petru Stirbate, signed the petition on the creation of a new parliamentary majority.

President Nicolae Timofti on 13 January turned down Vladimir Plahotniuc’s candidature for the position of prime minister.

According to a press release issued by the presidency’s press service, the president suggested the parliamentary majority “select another candidate for the position of prime minister, able to meet the enunciated integrity criteria”.
