Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister-designate Ion Paduraru during a news conference today announced that he withdrew his candidacy for the office of prime minister.
The official noted that President Nicolae Timofti had already revoked the decree appointing him as a prime minister.
“The president received a petition signed by 55 MPs this morning. A confrontation between me and the parliamentary majority would not be fair. I am currently no more a candidate for the position of prime minister,” Paduraru said.
“The candidate nominated by the parliamentary majority is a compromise, and therefore, the president is going to take a decision to this effect. It is useless for me to come up with a government programme, new list of ministers and hold negotiations with the parliamentary factions, when there is an already declared parliamentary majority,” Paduraru added.
President Nicolae Timofti on 14 January signed a decree on the designation of the presidency’s General Secretary Ion Paduraru as a candidate for the position of prime minister.
The parliamentary majority today required that the president revokes his decree on the appointment of Paduraru as a candidate for the office of prime minister, nominating acting Information Technology and Communications Minister Pavel Filip as its own candidate for the position of prime minister.
