Chisinau, 15 January /MOLDPRES/- President Nicolae Timofti today said he had designated acting Information Technology and Communications Minister Pavel Filip as the new candidate for the office of prime minister.
Timofti said he had received the signatures of 55 MPs in the support of Pavel Filip for the position of prime minister. “Pavel Filip has the authorization to work out a government action programme and cabinet list, due to be presented in the parliament for further examination. I hope he will succeed to maintain the balance and fulfill his duties to reform several systems of the society. I wish him success and good luck,” Timofti said.
The prime minister-designate noted that he was going to start negotiations with the parliamentary factions in the nearest time. “I realize that Moldova is going through hard times right now. I will start working on the government activity programme next days. At the same time, I will hold talks with the parliamentary factions. I will not name a specific date for the presentation of the government action programme. I will try to present it as soon as possible,” Filip said.
The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM), Marian Lupu said MPs had discussed several candidacies. However, they decided to nominate Pavel Filip. “In this context, we held talks during yesterday’s meeting of PDM’s Permanent Bureau. Taking into account the polarization of the society, our colleague, Vladimir Plahotniuc, suggested we nominate Pavel Filip for the office of prime minister,” Lupu said.
Pavel Filip was born on 10 April 1966, in Panasesti village, Straseni district. Filip is an engineer by profession, and has been the information technology and communications minister since 2011.
According to the Constitution, the prime minister-designate must ask the parliament’s vote of confidence on the government action programme and his full list of ministers within 15 days.
