Moldovan member of French Foreign Legion dies at training in Alps

Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/ - A 21-year-old Moldovan, member of the French Foreign Legion, has died in the wake of an avalanche that occurred at Valfrejus, in Savoie, while participating in a training exercise in the French Alps.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the press service of the Foreign and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE) confirmed this case. "The French authorities confirmed the fact that a Moldovan, member of the French Legion, had died in the wake of an avalanche in Alps. The young man's family was informed, and the French armed forces will help repatriate the body," secretary at MAEIE, Anastasia Nani, said.

According to the blog defense.blogs.lavoixdunord.fr, five legionaries, among whom one Nepali, an Italian, one Albanian and one Moldovan, lost their lives while training in the Alps mountains; another six legionaries were wounded and are hospitalised.
