Thousands of Moldovans protest against swearing in office of new cabinet

Chisinau, 20 January /MOLDPRES/ - Thousands of supporters of the Dignity and Truth Platform, Party of Socialists (PSRM) and the Party led by Renato Usatii today come outside the parliament building to show disagreement with the swearing in office of the government led by a Democratic Party (PDM) member, Pavel Filip.
The protesters shouted anti-government slogans and demanded snap elections. They asked the MPs to cancel the vote of confidence given to the cabinet led by Pavel Filip.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, one of the leaders of the Dignity and Truth Platform, Vasile Nastase, said that citizens discontented with the political and economic situation in Moldova had come to the rally.
The law-enforcement bodies detached hundreds of policemen outside the parliament and government buildings and urged the citizens to protest peacefully and observe the law, so that things do not degenerate. "We cannot give you an exact number of the protesters, we will provide figures subsequently," the head of the municipal police, Silviu Musuc, said.
Today, the MPs gave a vote of confidence to the government led by Pavel Filip. The new cabinet was backed by 57 lawmakers out of 68 ones present in the session hall.
