Moldovan PM, law-enforcers tackle protests in Chisinau

Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip today morning held a working meeting at the government, with participation of Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan, Director of the Information and Security Service Mihai Balan and Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
The heads of the law-enforcement institutions unveiled the latest information about the 20 January evening protest outside the parliament building, as well as about the rallies scheduled for 21 January. Jizdan said that in all, 27 policemen had been injured, of whom 11 were hospitalized, as well as four protesters. Also, more law enforcers were deprived of batons, helmets, mobile phones and shields.
In his report, Gurin said that, in connection with the 20 January protests, a criminal case was opened on mass disorder, and a string of criminal investigation actions were to be carried out, in order to establish all people who had incited protesters to violent actions and possibility to call them to account, according to the legal provisions.
Filip demanded that the law enforcers do their duty within the limits of law rules, ensure protection of citizens and state assets, and not allow worsening of the situation. At the same time, the participants in the meeting agreed on creating a joint investigation group in charge of investigating the cases of violence, destruction and theft of state patrimony.
