Moldovan premier's declaration

15:53 | 21.01.2016 Category: Official

Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ - Declaration by Prime Minister Pavel Filip:

I keep a close eye on the situation dealing with the protests taking place on these moments and I am in permanent touch with the institutions in charge of maintaining order in state and protecting its citizens. I demanded that the leaders of these institutions do their job, ensure the security of citizens and the state's assets, not allow provocations and other infringements of the law.

I voice regret for each person who suffered during the yesterday protests, no matter whether it is about representatives of law-enforcement bodies, journalists, protesters or colleagues from parliament or government. What happened is inadmissible and I demanded that the law-enforcement institutions initiate an objective and professional inquiry, in the wake of which those who committed these aggression should be taken to account.

Protests represent an important democratic form of manifestation, they should not restricted in any way, and the state's authorities must ensure a safe framework for their carrying out, as long as we speak about peaceful protests, within which the law is observed. Personally, I am a supporter of dialogue, I think that the problems are settled through a constructive and sincere communication in a state.

The appeal I address to the residents is to show vigilance, not react to manipulations and challenges, report to law-enforcers any abuses and infringements of the law they are noticing.

As prime minister, I will take every effort to bring peace and stability in Moldova, either we speak about the economic and social situation or the citizens' security.
