New Moldovan government to ask IMF to urgently send mission to Chisinau

Chisinau, 21 January /MOLDPRES/ - The new government will ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to urgently send a mission to Moldova, in order to start negotiations on a new agreement with the Fund, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said at the first cabinet meeting today.

"Many of the earlier discussed preconditions have been practically fulfilled. The issue of the governor of the National Bank of Moldova is left, yet I have full confidence that this problem will be settled too; therefore, we should already prepare the ground for inviting the Fund's mission to Moldova, so that we have soon a signed accord, which would also mean financial stability for future," the prime minister said.

The government said it wanted to urgently resume the dialogue with the development partners, first of all the International Monetary Fund. Yet, before this, the 2016 budget must be completed - a subject discussed at the government today.

Finance Minister Octavian Armasu said the ministry had already worked out a draft of the 2016 budget law, discussed with IMF experts. The draft of fiscal policy and of the budget law as early as next week might be submitted to government, for the subsequent talks with the Fund.

Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked the cabinet members to get involved in giving the final touches to the draft budget, which is priority.
