Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip held a meeting with representatives of oil companies today to discuss the formation of oil prices in Moldova and possibilities to decrease them, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.
During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the evolution of the situation on the international market and how the barrel price drop might affect the decrease in the fuel price. The sides have also discussed the problems Moldovan oil companies are currently facing.
Filip said the new government opted for maximal transparency of the price formation for products and services and would use all of its competencies to ensure this thing. “We may only use legal grounds, objectives and conditions to shrink prices. However, we have objective reasons to decrease oil prices. Some oil companies have already started to drop their prices, but I want to make sure that this cheapening will be adjusted to the reality of the international market and allow citizens to pay a correct price,” Filip said.
“The talks were held to assure citizens of a transparent price and tariff formation process, rather than to convince oil companies to shrink prices. It means that prices should no more include extra-gain and unjustified spending. Citizens must know for sure that their money is only paid for spending that deserves to be included in the price,” Filip said.
The prime minister voiced his openness for a constructive dialogue with the oil market representatives and for an efficient cooperation with other state institutions in order to adjust oil pump prices. “I count on oil companies to this effect, and hopefully, after an additional analysis we will be able to show people concrete results in the next days,” Filip noted.
Oil sale representatives say there are opportunities to drop oil prices. Some companies have already decreased the diesel price by 60 bani per liter, which could drop by 40 more bani next week. Prices will generally shrink by one leu.
