Moldovan Interior Ministry to deploy all subdivisions to ensure public order during tomorrow’s protests

Chisinau, 23 January /MOLDPRES/-Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan during a news conference today said all the subdivisions of the Interior Ministry would ensure public order during the protests planned to take place in Chisinau tomorrow. To this effect, the Interior Ministry shall double the number of patrol teams.

According to policemen, three demonstrations are going to be held in Chisinau tomorrow; two of them will be organised in Chisinau downtown by the supporters of DA Platform (Dignity and Truth), Socialist Party (PSRM) and Partidul Nostru (Our Party) party. The third protest will be held in Chisinau’s Ciocana sector to support the government headed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

“We are looking for solutions to ensure peaceful and non-violent protests. We will take efforts to track potential provocateurs and counteract bad consequences,” Jizdan said.  

“We call for organisers to take responsibility towards the development of the protests. At the same time, we urge citizens to avoid getting involved in violence acts and ask for policemen’s help, if necessary”, the interior minister said.

Interior Ministry’s representatives said road traffic would be restricted in the perimeter of the Moldovan parliament building and the Great National Assembly.

Policemen added that “27 employees of the Interior Ministry were hurt by the protests on 20 January 2016; ten of them are hospitalized”.

The investiture of the government headed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip on 20 January in the evening, raised discontent among people, who started massive protests, asking for the annulment of the parliament’s vote of confidence and for snap elections.
