Moldovan protesters ask government to give answer to meeting popular claims

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/- Leaders of protesters asked the current government to meet popular claims before 28 January; otherwise, they will resort to civil disobedience actions. The statement was made at the end of the protest that took place on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) on 24 January.
Supporters of Dignity and Truth Platform, Party of Socialists (PSRM) and party led by Renato Usatii demanded the resignation of Filip government, leadership of more state institutions, as well as snap polls.
“Thursday at 17:00 is deadline to respond to our claims. If they are not accepted, next Sunday hundreds of thousands of citizens will come in the square”, the head of the Great National Assembly Council, Andrei Nastase, said.
Socialists’ leader Igor Dodon said if the government did not respond, “the protesters will resort to other civil disobedience actions: blocking national routes, airport and railway”.
The head of Our Party, Renato Usatii, said “we cannot make any step back. We are waiting for a very clear answer till Thursday. The protests will go on until the current government organizes snap polls”.
Late last week, after meeting the leaders of protesters, parliament Speaker Andrian Candu said that their claims could not be met, as “snap polls are not as a solution to Moldova, and annulment of confidence vote cannot be carried out, as the government was sworn in legally”.
On 24 January, a large-scale protest took place on the Great National Assembly Square against the way of swearing in office of Filip government, being repeatedly demanded organisation of snap poll, monitored by the United Nations and other international institutions.
According to organizers, about 100,000 citizens participated in the protest. At the same time, the Interior Ministry announced that nearly 16,000 people had been present there, and 20,000 in flow. No major incidents were recorded.
