More actions to be organised in Moldova to commemorate Holocaust victims

Chisinau, 26 January /MOLDPRES/ - The Inter-ethnical Relations Bureau (BRI) on 26 January - 16 February will organise more actions to commemorate the Holocaust victims. The events will take place on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, marked annually on 27 January.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, BRI director general Lilia Bolocan has said the actions started today with a commemorative lesson dedicated to the Holocaust victims, held in the Moldovan libraries. Also today, a play titled "Ghetto" will be staged at the A.P. Chekhov Russian State Dramatic Theatre beginning with 16:30.
According to Bolocan, on 25-29 January, under a circular letter by the Education Ministry, activities for raising awareness about the Holocaust phenomenon will take place at pre-university institutions, in order to promote the democratic values of anti-discrimination, tolerance and anti-xenophobia.
On 27 January at 15:00, a commemoration rally in the memory of the Holocaust's victims will be organised at the Monument to the Fascism Victims on the Calea Orheiului Street 36. Attending the event will be members of the Jewish community, representatives of the central and local public authorities. On the same day, the KEDEM Jewish Culture Centre from Chisinau will host a commemorative concert. Representatives of the diplomatic corps, central public authorities, members of the Jewish Community of Moldova and the Coordination Council of the ethno-cultural organisations are expected to attend the event.
On 28 January, an exhibition titled „Праведники мира”/ „Predicatorii lumii”, (World's Preachers) will be inaugurated at the KEDEM Jewish Culture Centre, followed by a news conference. On 2 February, BRI, in partnership with the Moldovan State University (USM), will organise a student conference titled „Toleranţă şi multiculturalitate” (Tolerance and Multi-Culturality). Attending the event will be students of Moldovan universities, representatives of the academic environment and Jewish Community from Moldova.
The events will end with a forum titled, Tolerance, Fighting Extremism, Anti-Semitism and Xenophobia, held at the Chisinau-based KEDEM Jewish Culture Centre on 16 February.
According to BRI director Lilia Bolocan, the events are organised in line with the Moldovan parliament Decision No 210 from 26 November 2015 and taking into account the practices established in the European states, history and model of peaceful coexistence of the ethnic minorities in Moldova, importance to ensure an efficient dialogue with the Jewish community and relevance to prevent the tragic phenomena from the past.
