Chisinau, 27 January /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Pavel Filip during the cabinet meeting today said he would convene a meeting of all the officials in charge of negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on 28 January, in order to assess to what extent IMF’s conditions are being fulfilled.
Filip said an invitation letter had already been sent to IMF, and “we are waiting for a mission to come next month, in order to thoroughly discuss arrears and then meet the group of negotiators as soon as possible. I hope negotiations will be quick. It also greatly depends on us,” Filip noted.
If it signs a new agreement with the IMF, Moldova might receive 45 million dollars from the World Bank and 40.7 million euros from the EU as financial support. It would also restore confidence in Moldova’s macro-financial stability.
Moldova’s old IMF three-year agreement was supposed to end on 31 December 2012. However, following the IMF mission’s visit to Moldova in November 2012, the programme was extended by three more months. The failure to fulfill certain commitments in the context of the political crisis started in early 2013 caused the adoption of certain laws running counter to Moldova’s agreements with IMF. Respectively, Moldova missed the last installment of 76 million euros.
