Protest leaders refuse to attend meeting with Moldovan parliament speaker

Chisinau, 28 January /MOLDPRES/-During a news briefing today, the leaders of the protesters said they would not attend the meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, programmed for 29 January, in order to discuss potential ways to meet their demands.
The head of the Great National Assembly Council, Andrei Nastase, leader of the Socialist Party (PSRM), Igor Dodon and the leader of Partidul Nostru (Our Party) party, Renato Usati invited Candu to unveil the solutions in front of the protesters, during the Civic Forum, due tomorrow.
“The ultimatum forwarded by the protesters expired at 17:00 today. Thus, taking into account the fact that the Civic Forum will be held tomorrow at 10:00, we decided to invite Andrian Candu at this event and tackle the solutions the authorities have come up to,” Nastase said.
PSRM leader Igor Dodon reiterated the conditions submitted by the protesters. “We have a firm position and continue to demand for the parliament’s dissolution, snap elections, amendment of the Constitution’s provisions on electing the state by the people and releasing state institutions from captivity,” Dodon said.
The speaker is going to meet the leaders of the parliamentary majority this evening, in order to discuss the solutions. We are waiting for him to attend the Civic Forum and take a joint solution for the next actions,” Usatii said.
Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu today invited the leaders of the protesters for 29 January at 9:00, to discuss their demands, as well as eventual solutions identified to the claims filed.
A large-scale protest against the investiture procedure of the government headed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip, was held on the Great National Assembly Square on 24 January. Protesters’ leaders required state authorities to meet their demands by 28 January, 17:00, otherwise threatening with resort to civil disobedience actions.
