Chisinau, 29 January /MOLDPRES/-A project on the EU’s further support for the Moldovan Competitiveness Council, was launched in Chisinau today.

“Today’s event perfectly fits the training and the preparation process needed to implement European practices in this field and implement the commitments Moldova assumed within the EU association agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement,” Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic said.

The head of the Competitiveness Council (CC), Viorica Carare said the project launched with the EU support “is a very important one” for the institution she was heading. “Moldova has a competitiveness law adopted in 2012; however, it is very important that we implement it correctly, in compliance with the EU legislation, and therefore, we would not have been able to do it without our partners’ support,” Carare said.

A team of highly-experienced EU experts will help the Competitiveness Council implement the law correctly and efficiently during the project. “Usually, the law provides for basic algorithms. We are now trying to carry out an array of procedures suitable for any situation. We are going to implement the best EU practices in the field in order to achieve the most faithful observance of the law in a more correct and efficient way,” Carare emphasized.

“Improving the legislation is another goal for us. The law is new and good, but needs improvement. During the project, we will track and correct its flaws. Besides that, during the advocacy period, which is the third part of the project, we will meet foreign journalists with a large experience in the media coverage of the competitiveness field, who will share their knowledge and experience with their Moldovan colleagues. We will also organise seminars with judges, economic agents and local public authorities, in order to anticipate certain violations and decisions in favor of certain economic agents,” Carare added.

The head of the project department within the EU Delegation in Chisinau, Aneil Singh, said EU officials were glad to launch and back this project. “We will further back the Competitiveness Council and help it efficiently implement the legislation,” the EU official said.
