Prosecutor General’s Office files criminal case on grenade attack on National Bank of Moldova interim governor’s house

Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/-Prosecutor General’s Office (PG) filed a criminal case on the explosion of an offensive grenade thrown in the house of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) interim governor, Dorin Dragutanu on 31 January at night.
The head of PG’s press service, Maria Vieru said the incident took place at 02:40, when Dragutanu and his family were in the house. “Nobody was hurt by the explosion,” Vieru said.
The acting head of the General Police Inspectorate (IGP), Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, said an unknown person had thrown the grenade inside the house’s balcony. “The explosion broke several windows and damaged the facade of the house. The owners were inside the house during the explosion, and called the police subsequently. There are suspects; however, we cannot disclose their identity, as it could prejudice the course of the investigation,” Cavcaliuc said.
The criminal case was filed on terrorist act offence (Article 278 of the Criminal Code). The investigations are carried out by a criminal investigation mixed group. Thus, members of the group are prosecutors of the PG’s department for the enforcement of criminal prosecution of organised and exceptional crime, investigation police officers and officers of the Intelligence and Security Service.
An imprisonment from eight to 15 years is provided in the Criminal Code for such an offense.
