Chisinau, 3 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved a draft law on the completion of Article 109 of Moldova’s Criminal Code, in order to diminish the number of offences that can be settled as a result of the sides’ reconciliation.
The amendment narrows the circle of persons with regard to whom the criminal responsibility may be removed as a result of the reconciliation between the author of the offence and the injured person. Hence, the perpetrator who has not committed his/her first offence in the last five years, will be given the punishment in accordance with the degree of the damage caused by the concerned offence.
Following an analysis carried out by the Interior Ministry’s General Police Inspectorate, the number of cases of repeatedly committed offences by the same persons was large in 2010-2014. Namely for this reason, the amendment proposed is meant to decrease the number of criminal cases which end with the reconciliation of the sides.
The document is to be submitted to parliament for consideration and approval.
