Moldovan foreign minister receives Head of Council of Europe Office, Chief of OSCE Mission in Chisinau

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today received Head of the Council of Europe (CoE) Office in Chisinau, Ambassador Jose-Luis Herrero and Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Michael Scanlan, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.  

The officials exchanged opinions on up-to-date issues concerning Moldova’s cooperation with CoE and OSCE, in particular, the role of these organisations in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and strengthening the inter-ethnic relations, implementing the normative framework concerning the status of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia and the Transnistrian conflict settlement process. 

The sides also stressed the importance of giving final touches to the development and adoption of the 2016-2023 strategy of consolidating the inter-ethnic relations as soon as possible. The CoE and OSCE representatives reiterated the organisations’ willingness to provide the needed assistance to achieve the goals set in this strategy, aimed at helping strengthening the social cohesion and inter-ethnic harmony.

In this context, Minister Andrei Galbur confirmed the Moldovan authorities’ interest in the resumption of the negotiations in all the three formats, 5+2, 1+1 and the one of sectorial groups, as soon as possible, and thanked OSCE for the role of mediator in the settlement process. Galbur highlighted the valuable contribution of these two organisations in promoting measures of strengthening trust between the two banks of Dniester.
