OSCE to help Moldovan government achieve goals, European official says

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/-Prime Minister Pavel Filip today held a meeting with the head of the OSCE Mission, Ambassador Michael Scanlan. The officials discussed the Transnistrian conflict’s settlement, measures to enhance confidence and security in Moldova, as well as ways to integrate national minorities into the Moldovan society, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Filip said the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict continued to be one of the government’s key-priorities, confirming Moldovan authorities’ commitment to consolidate institutional capacities in order to enhance the coordination level between authorities in charge of implementing policies in this sector.
The Moldovan prime minister voiced conviction that decision-making factors would focus upon the people’s needs and expectations during the country’s reintegration process. In this context, Filip tackled the actions his government had taken and would take, in order to achieve an efficient cooperation with authorities from the Gagauz autonomy and other regions of Moldova.
For his part, Scanlan welcomed the cabinet’s commitments to promote an open communication policy in the reintegration field and consolidate the government’s institutional capacities, in order to achieve an efficient coordination of the settlement process. The EU official has also praised the decision to hold a cabinet meeting in Comrat soon.
On behalf of the OSCE’s High Commissioner on National Minorities, Scanlan emphasized the importance of the approval, as soon as possible, of the strategy for the national minorities’ integration in Moldova, reconfirming OSCE’s availability to fully back the Moldovan government to this effect.
