Japan to extend cooperation with Moldova in sectors of common interest

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and European Integration Minister Andrei Galbur today met Kiev-based Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Shigeki Sumi, on a working visit to Chisinau, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s information and media communication service has reported.
The officials praised the friendship and cooperation relations between Moldova and Japan, which are on the rise. In this context, the diplomats stressed the importance of the recent opening of the diplomatic missions in Chisinau and Tokyo, that will be able to help boost the political dialogue between the two countries.
Minister Andrei Galbur expressed thanks for the technical and financial assistance, provided to Moldova through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in particular, for developing agriculture, education and medicine. At the same time, the Moldovan official reiterated Moldova’s interest to further benefit from assistance programmes offered by the government of Japan, especially to promote reforms and modernize the country.
For his part, Ambassador Shigeki Sumi reiterated willingness of Japan to extend cooperation with Moldova in areas of common interest, particularly in the trade, economic and social sectors. The diplomat also confirmed Japan’s will to further back the Moldovan cabinet in carrying out the reforms needed to ensure a sustainable economic development and improve the living standards of the residents.
The officials also exchanged opinions on the domestic situation in Moldova. Ambassador Shigeki Sumi was informed on government’s priorities for the immediately next period, as well as on the extension of the provisions of the Association Agreement and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the European Union over all the territory of Moldova.
