Chisinau. 8 Febraury /MOLDPRES/- Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu held a meeting with Swedish King Gustaf XVI in Stockholm today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.
Being one of Moldova’s most important development partners, Candu thanked Sweden's authorities and citizens for offering Moldova consistent financial support and expertise, in order to back the implementation of reforms and EU integration. The total amount of projects Sweden has implemented in Moldova so far accounts for 37 million euros.
During the talks, the sides emphasized the good cooperation ties between Moldova and Sweden.
The Swedish king voiced interest in Moldova’s situation and regional context. Candu informed him of the most important successes in Moldova’s economy sector, focusing upon wine production, development of renewable energy and industry.
Candu invited the Swedish king to visit Moldova and familiarize himself with the select wines Moldova is proud of and which have been offered to him as a gift by many Moldovan producers, as well as to set up a museum in Varnita settlement.
The Moldovan speaker’s visit to the Sweden Royal Court once again highlights the special Moldovan-Swedish ties, inclusively historically, as it is known that Swedish King Carol XII had lived for seven years in Varnita, Tighina, in the early 18th century.
Candu started his two-day visit to Sweden today. Tomorrow, the speaker will meet his Swedish counterpart, Urban Ahlin, as well as other officials of the Sweden Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation.
