Moldovan premier meets Belgian ambassador

Chisinau, 8 February /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Pavel Filip held a meeting with Belgian Ambassador to Moldova Thomas Baekelandt today. The officials voiced their mutual interest to boost up the Moldovan-Belgian political dialogue and develop bilateral economic cooperation, the government’s communication and press relations department has reported.
Filip touched upon the government’s priorities, focusing on the development partners’ efforts to help Moldova successfully implement its agenda of reforms. “We are fully determined to carry out the reforms we have assumed, curb corruption and other barriers to Moldova’s economic development, give concrete results and thus, regain the confidence of the development partners and Moldovan citizens,” the prime minister said.
For his part, Baekelandt voiced Belgium’s availability to back the implementation of reforms in Moldova, noting that the entire international community is closely following the evolution of events in Moldova and wants to help it ensure its social-political stability.
The sides have also tackled the situation of the Moldovan financial-banking sector, along with the measures the government takes to settle it. In this context, the Belgian ambassador said it was important that Moldova and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) sign a new agreement.
