EU to monitor Moldova's anti-corruption measures, advancement of reforms in justice, banking system

Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Nicolae Timofti today received Rapporteur of the European Parliament for Moldova Petras Austrevicius, on a fact-collecting visit to Moldova, the presidential press service has reported.
The Lithuanian MEP said the European Union would continue backing Moldova, on condition that the results of the pro-European agenda’s implementation were visible on the next period. “The European Union will keep a close eye on the anti-corruption measures applied, advancement of reforms in the justice system, as well as in the financial and banking one. We are waiting for a visit by the International Monetary Fund to Moldova, so as to subsequently generate actions on behalf of European institutions,” Petras Austrevicius said.
President Timofti said that the bad practices used in Moldova must be uprooted, and that the European Union can help the country to this end.
The head of state said Moldova must follow the example of Romania in enforcing the programme of European association and integration. “I will discuss, on the occasion of the visit I am to make to Bucharest, possibilities to strengthen our cooperation in fields that will give an impetus to Moldova’s advancement on the European integration way,” Nicolae Timofti added.
