Moldovan premier says there are prerequisites for cutting electricity tariff

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip today told a news briefing that the Moldovan government had facilitated negotiating electricity purchase contracts by operators, managing to decrease its acquisition price, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.
“After negotiations, we got a very good price. We analyzed, at a today’s meeting with decision makers in the field, how this electricity price cut will influence the tariff due to be paid by citizens”, he said.
Filip also said that, according to technical data, there were prerequisites for the end price paid by consumers to record a 10-per cent cut. The new tariff will include updated exchange rate, inflation, as well as other solutions identified during negotiations.
At the same time, the prime minister said the electricity rates might further drop on the immediately next period. Thus, the cabinet considered possibility to additionally decrease the tariff, besides the abovementioned 10 per cent, as soon as possible, eventually just starting from next April.
The National Energy Regulatory Agency will analyze a new contract and give its opinion on possibility to decrease the electricity rates.
