Contest commission selects candidate for National Bank of Moldova governor position

Chisinau, 2 March /MOLDPRES/- The commission for selecting a candidate for National Bank of Moldova (BNM) governor office announced the results of the contest today, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

Sergiu Cioclea, who got the maximum amount of points in compliance with the assessment criteria set out by the members of the commission, was nominated as a candidate for this position. Valeriu Chitan and Vadim Brinzan ranked second and third respectively.

“The commission decided to put Sergiu Cioclea first on the list of candidates for the position of BNM governor. He stood out through very clear visions on the financial-banking sector and the development of Moldova’s banking system. He also had a clear point on the development of the economic sector in cooperation with the National Bank of Moldova,” the head of the contest commission, Stefan Creanga said.

Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu thanked the members of the commission, adding that he would present the selected candidate to the parliament in the nearest time. “There are certain legal procedures we should follow. I will discuss with the candidate before introducing him to the parliament. I will also aim to ensure a further correct and transparent process for the public opinion,” Candu said. He also backed the initiative to organize similar contests for other important public positions as well.

Nine candidates, and namely, Roman Cernisev, Vadim Brinzan, Sergiu Cioclea, Serghei Melnik, Valeriu Chitan, Victor Timotin, Gheorghe Dimitrov, Sergiu Iachim and Vladimir Munteanu participated in the contest and applied for the BNM governor position.
