Moldovan, American officials broach reforms, cooperation

Chisinau, 4 March /MOLDPRES/- The U.S.A. will continue to back Moldova in implementing reforms. U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Bridget Brink made the statement at a today’s meeting with Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, the parliament’s communication and media relations department has reported.
Implementation of reforms, legislative priorities and political evolutions in Moldova were main issues discussed at the event.
The speaker said that as a priority on the legislative agenda was speeding up implementation of the Association Agreement in order to remove the arrears. In the context, Candu said that the roadmap on implementation of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement set the short and medium term priorities in the activity of parliament and government, as well as clear actions the responsible authorities must carry out in the deadlines on the basis of the conclusions of European Union Council on Moldova.
“One of the key-elements, missing in the judicial reform, has been carried out. It is about the prosecution reform. The law on prosecution, recently adopted by the parliament, was submitted to the president for promulgation. The related legislation is to be approved in order to succeed the prosecution reform in deadlines and be finalized the judicial reform”, he said.
The speaker noted that the parliament’s reform priorities for next period were focused on adopting in final reading the set of integrity, financial-banking and energy. He said that the authorities were presently elaborating an action plan on emergency measures.
At the same time, Candu referred to a string of actions of authorities to regain trust of citizens and European partners.
The officials also exchanged opinions about resuming talks with the International Monetary Fund, anti-corruption actions, audiovisual reform and more active involvement of civil society in the legislative process, situation in the Transnistrian region and in Gagauzia.
Bridget Brink said that the United States would continue to back the reforms and stability in the country. The official noted that the reform actions must be complete and rising.
Brink pays a working visit to Moldova on 2-4 March.
