Moldovan, European officials broach evolution of economic, social policies in Moldova

Chisinau, 15 March /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip met Vice-President of European Commission and European Commissioner for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovskis, on the second day of his visit to Brussels, the government’s communication and media relations department has reported.

The sides approached issues on macroeconomic framework, resuming the dialogue with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), measures taken by authorities to stabilize the financial and banking sector, in particular, amendments proposed by government to strengthen the independence of the National Bank of Moldova and National Financial Market Commission, as well as to create a single depository.

In this context, Dombrovskis welcomed the appointment of a new governor of the National Bank and measures taken to consolidate the independence of regulators – National Bank and National Financial Market Commission.     

The prime minister evoked the firm determination to take comprehensive measures to restore the financial and banking sector, according to the commitments assumed in the roadmap on the priority reforms' agenda.

Valdis Dombrovskis said that, after the signing of the memorandum with IMF, the EU was willing to formulate a budget support programme for Moldova and the latter was to be available in a short time.

Pavel Filip assured that the government would take all needed efforts to negotiate and sign a new friendly programme with IMF. The prime minister voiced hope that the European Union's framework of assistance for Moldova would be strengthened and budget support programmes would be de-blocked. Filip said these programmes were extremely important to advance in implementing the reforms agenda and carrying out social and economic projects expected by the entire society.
