Moldovan ambassador to Austria resigns

Chisinau, 16 March /MOLDPRES/- Moldovan Ambassador to Austria Andrei Popov has resigned from his office, as well as from the one of member of the Democratic Party (PDM). Popov made statements to this effect at a news conference on 15 March.
The diplomat said that the decision had been taken after he decided to return home, “in order to contribute to changing the realities diplomats must represent and implement. I am unsatisfied and sometimes I am ashamed of what is happening at home”, Popov said.
Andrei Popov noted that, after his mandate was over, already in May, he was going to come back to Chisinau. “I will try to use my knowledge, experience, expertise, relations not only in the fields of foreign policy, diplomacy, international security, but also in the administration and good governance, in order to help change things for the better in my country”, he added.
In 2004-2009, Andrei Popov served as executive director of the Foreign Policy Association. In 2009, Popov joined the Democratic Party and elected lawmaker of the Moldovan parliament.
Starting from November 2009 till August 2013, Andrei Popov held the office of Deputy Foreign Minister of Moldova, being in charge of bilateral cooperation and international organizations. In August 2013, he was appointed as Moldovan Ambassador to Austria and concurrently to Slovakia.
