Moldovan, European officials broach issues of national minorities

Chisinau, 18 March /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Foreign and European Integration Minister Lilian Darii today met a delegation of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for Protection of National Minorities of the Council of Europe, on a fact-collecting visit to Moldova, the Foreign and European Integration Ministry’s communication and media relations service has reported.
The officials reviewed the situation of national minorities from Moldova and state policies on preserving and developing the ethnic and cultural identity of national minorities and their integration into the Moldovan society.
Darii reiterated Moldova’s willingness to closely cooperate with Council of Europe, in order to fulfill the commitments set under the framework convention. He stressed the importance of the assistance provided by European experts to Moldova, in particular, by elaborating expertise on the strategy of integration of ethnic minorities from Moldova and backing the implementation of the recommendations formulated to this end.
The sides exchanged opinions on the visits by the European delegation to Balti, Taraclia and Gagauzia.
