Moldsilva agency prepares more actions for International Day of Forests

Chisinau, 21 March /MOLDPRES/- "Forest and Water" is the 2016 title of the International Day of Forests, marked today, under a resolution by the United Nations. This year, attention will be paid to issues of water and importance of forestry fund in maintaining a quality hydrological regime.

On this occasion, the Moldsilva agency worked out a plan of activities, due to be carried out nationwide and locally on 21-25 March.

According to the agenda, this week more events will take place at the Institute of Forestry Research and Management, forestry and public gardens department of the State Agrarian University, with the participation of structures of the Environment Ministry, in partnership with ENPI (European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument) FLEG (Forestry Law Enforcement and Governance) II project.

Topic-related contests in drawing and essays were announced for children, as well as more trips were scheduled for the latter to the main nature reserves of Moldova. At the same time, on this occasion, the Moldsilva agency prepared an awareness campaign within the Straseni-based boarding school, - an event which has already become a tradition for this institution.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on declaring the International Day of Forests in December 2012 and announced its marking starting from 2013, in order to raise the level of awareness in terms of management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests. The UN’s principal message of this year is focused on the role of forests in providing fresh water on the Earth, which is essential for life.
